Xtreme Journey Japan

The goal of this trip is to build relationships with Japanese people and share the Gospel with them in the context of a friendship. The Japanese are very relational so the Gospel is shared most effectively in the context of a relationship.  Here are some things you can expect to take place.

Prayer

One of the focuses of the trip will be continual prayer. There will be times when the missionaries ask you to focus specifically on prayer, whether that be prayer-walking or having a prayer meeting with other believers. But you will be challenged to be praying at all times, even while you are engaged in other forms of ministry. By being in continual prayer, you will be depending on God to guide you in who to talk to and what to say to them.

Relational Evangelism

Some of the ways in which you will meet people are:

  • Teaching 5 minute English lessons on the street
  • Eating lunch at college cafeterias
  • Striking up conversations with people in parks and cafes
  • Going to English clubs at high schools and universities

The next step is building a friendship. Once a friendship is established, the goal is to transition from casual, friendly, conversations into spiritual dialogue. This will open up doors for the sharing the Gospel and personal testimonies, ultimately bringing them closer to a relationship with Christ.

Sowing

You will also have the opportunity to sow the seed of the Gospel. You will be given tracts to hand out while riding trains, buying your meals, and going through other aspects of daily life. These tracts have a mail-in postcard that will help the missionaries build a relationship with that person after you are gone. Also, some people may be asked to pass out flyers on street corners as a way to find people who are interested in hearing more about Jesus.

Friendship Party

One of the highlights of the trip will be your friendship party. You will spend your whole week inviting people to your friendship party. There you will have the opportunity to not only continue talking to them about the Gospel, but also hand off that relationship to the missionaries so that they can continue pouring into that person’s life after you leave.

Orientation and Free Day

Your first few days in Tokyo will be spent in orientation, learning the basics of ministry in Tokyo. Also you will be given one free day in which you can site see and shop.
